With 4:00 left in regulation during Saturday's Captials - Devils game, P.K. Subban attempted to send a rocket to the Caps net only to drill teammate Nico Hischier in the face.

Coach Lindy Ruff said his star center is day-to-day after getting hit in the face with the puck and that he is being evaluated and they'll just go from there.

The Devils have not had an easy go of it when it comes to playing the Capitals. During their match-up on Saturday they struggled to find footing and only scored twice. The Devils put one on the board in the first and one up in the second. However, they put up a goose egg for the third and would go on to lose 5-2. To make matters even worse, that third period resulted in the loss of Hischier for the foreseeable future.

The injury to Hischier came off a set play that was being ran in the Capitals zone after the Devils won the face-off on the left side. Jack Hughes pulled the puck back from the dot and hit a tap pass over to Pavel Zacha, then he delivers it to Subban at the point via slap-pass. The tic-tac-toe play was executed flawlessly, but Hischier was working down low, looking for a tip, and took Subban's shot straight to the face. The shot was so fast he had no time to react and he was on the ice before he knew what hit him.

Saturday looked bad for the Devils, but Sunday looked like they could eek out a win.

Mikhail Maltsev scored short side with a long-range wrist shot from the top of the right circle. Replays showed it deflected off Dmitry Orlov’s stick, making it impossible for Samonsov to track.

The the Capitals scored the next two goals.

Yegor Sharangovich scored 3:20 into the second period, using a screen from Nick Jensen. Yegor's goal tied it up 2-2 and the Devils had a chance.

That is, until Alex Ovechkin decide to break his three game scoreless drought.

Ovechkin skated down the left, on an odd-man rush, with 6:00 left in the second period. Ovi gathered a pass from Lars Eller with his left skate, then kicked the puck to his blade driving to the slot. He finished by ripping  a shot top-shelf over Blackwood, delivering the Capitals a 3-2 win.
