Keith Blacksmith, 21, who lived at home with his girlfriend, Tyra Kirkness, and her family was severely burned when his house became engulfed in flames.

Tragically Tyra Kirkness didn't not make it out of the fire. Her body was discovered on Saturday the 25th, but an autopsy is pending to confirm the identity.

Firefighters went to the house at 6:15 a.m. Friday after receiving reports that people were trapped in a burning building on Centennial Drive E. in Thompson, a small city north of Winnipeg.

Blacksmith, who's captain of the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation Flames junior B hockey team, was taken to hospital in critical condition with very serious injuries. He is now listed in stable condition but is in a chemically induced coma.

A hockey player since age three, his future on the ice remains uncertain. "Depending on his condition when he heals, we're not sure that he's ever going to be able to play sports again," his mother said.

A representative with the NCN Flames said the team will post updates; Blacksmith’s teammates chose to go ahead with two scheduled weekend games in his honor.

Baacos Bar & Grill in Thompson announced it would donate $2 from each food purchase last weekend to the families of the victims.

 From Cheryl Blacksmith

He just finished his 4 hr surgery.
They worked on his arms and hands.
It went very well, the surgery was a success.

He may not require surgery on his face as the right side is healing. The left side of his face will need more time.

Hes still in an induced coma. His heart is good, his lungs are getting better, hes still breathing out of a tube. Surgeons don't know when they'll be taking him in again. There's still alot of work that needs to be done on him. Were taking this one day at time..
