Alex Ovechkin Scores 691 Career Goals Passing Mario Lemieux



Washington Capitals' Great 8, Alex Ovechkin, just tied, then passed Mario Lemieux by scoring his 690th and his 691st goal, putting him at 10th on the all time career goals list. .

Ovechkin scored on a breakaway at 10:22 of the first period. Then he scored a falling backhand at 14:44 in the third period against the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum on Saturday. 

Ovechkin has 690 goals in 1,133 games over 15 NHL seasons with the Capitals. Lemieux scored 690 goals in 915 games over 17 seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

He has scored six goals in his past three games, including his 25th hat trick. Ovechkin scored twice in a 2-0 win against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, when he passed Teemu Selanne (684 goals) for 11th in League history.

With 10 more goals, Ovechkin will become the eighth player in NHL history to reach 700, joining Wayne Gretzky (894), Gordie Howe (801), Jaromir Jagr (766), Brett Hull (741), Marcel Dionne (731), Phil Esposito (717) and Gartner (708).
