Monday night in Pittsburgh the Penguins were on a all out attack against the Ottawa Senators. Malkin, Simon, Hornqvist and Guentzel all lit the lamp but it was that final goal, scored by Guentzel, that may have a huge impact on the rest of the Penguins' season.

Guentzel left in the third period of the 5-2 victory against Ottawa immediately after scoring the goal and did not return. On the play, Guentzel finished off a tic-tac-toe play to score his 20th goal of the season and 200th point of his NHL career. Right after the puck crossed the goal line Guentzel was tripped up by Ottawa's Thomas Chabot.

Follow the game head coach Mike Sullivan had no update on Guentzel's status, but this morning it was announced that Guentzel underwent successful shoulder surgery. The surgery was performed at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital by team physician, Dr. Dharmesh Vyas, and Dr. Ivan Tarkin of UPMC Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery.

After breaking the news about the injury GM Jim Rutherford said that Guentzel is expected to miss four to six months, which puts him out for the remainder of the season.

Guentzel was just announced as a member of the 2020 NHL All Star Game and this would have marked his first appearance at the event.
