Don Cherry Nets Success With Grapevine Podcast

Don Cherry; the man, the myth, the legend. No other figure in professional hockey has been as prevalent or polarizing as this man. Ask anyone one the street about Don and they will give you one of two answers; they either love him or hate him. There is no grey area when it comes to Grapes.

Cherry has lived a storied life so storied, in fact, they had to make two movies about his adventures. And rather than list everything he has ever done, it would be best if you took the time to watch 'Keep Your Head Up, Kid' and 'Wrath of Grapes'. These two films are phenomenal and Jared Keeso (Letterkenny) gives an amazing performance as Grapes.

With that said, it's time to look at how Cherry's career has weathered the storm of public damnation since a bunch of jerks had him dismissed from Coach's Corner on November 9th (technically 11th).

Cherry took a beat, did a couple interviews, and on November 18th started his own half hour podcast called Don Cherry's Grapevine, co-hosted with his son Tim.  While that was happening Hockey Night In Canada saw their ratings drop so low that NCIS and NCIS: New Orleans beat them out.

Now one month latter and Don Cherry's Grapvine has beaten out The Joe Rogan Experience as top podcast in Canada and HNIC has seen its viewership drop by 500,000.

At this point it's safe to say that Don has landed on his feet and now has a platform that is far better suited to his strengths. As for HNIC who knows, but the numbers don't paint a pretty picture.
